I am a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney at Swindell & Pearson, a firm of patent and trade mark attorneys based in Derby.

I work closely with innovators, helping them to protect their intellectual property (IP) as well as to get as much value out of it as they can. My focus is on patent protection and industrial design protection, but I and my colleagues are also able to assist clients with trade marks, copyright, trade secrets, and any other IP-related issues. We work with clients of any size, whether they are large multinationals, SMEs or individuals.

Having studied manufacturing engineering at university, I now work with clients in a range of disciplines, including mechanical devices, telecommunications, automotive, electrical engineering and optics. My manufacturing background means I’m always particularly keen to understand my clients’ processes and learn how they produce their inventions.

Considering IP protection is an important step for any company and I’ve found that a little knowledge can go a long way in equipping companies to make the right decisions. It’s important to decide on your IP strategy as early as possible, and to keep your innovations secret until you have applied for patent protection.
